A Christmas Story
November 26 – December 2, 2017
Directed By: Julie Barnett
Auditions for the Red Carpet Community Theatre’s production of “A Christmas Story” will be held October 2nd and 3rd at 7pm at the theater 422 North Jefferson Ave. in Elk City, Oklahoma.
Production dates are November 26 through December 2. A cast of two men, two women, five boys, and two girls will be sought. (Cast may be expanded but no extremely young children will be cast.)
Humorist Jean Shepherd’s memoirs of growing up in the Midwest in the 1940s follows 9-year-old Ralphie Parker in his quest to get a genuine Red Ryder BB gun under the tree for Christmas. Ralphie pleads his case before his mother, his teacher, and even Santa Claus himself with the consistent response: “You’ll shoot your eye out!”. All the elements from the beloved motion picture will be here, including the family’s temperamental exploding furnace; Scut Farkas, the school bully; the boys’ experiment with a wet tongue on a cold lamppost; the Little Orphan Annie decoder pin; Ralphie’s father winning a lamp shaped like a woman’s leg in a net stocking; Ralphie’s fantasy scenarios and more!
Auditioners should come prepared by familiarizing themselves with the characters. (This show will be produced via arrangements with The Dramatic Publishing Company). Excerpts from the play will be read. Those auditioning should also bring a list of their conflicts to compare with scheduled rehearsals. The audition process may take from 2 to 2 1/2 hours.
Julie K. Barnett, recently the
Fairy Godmother in this summer’s production of “Cinderella”, is the show’s director. She eagerly anticipates the two evenings of auditions and hopes to see you there!
